CHAPTER NINE

For Shits and Giggles

…Several hours later

He burst out laughing when she snorted and almost knocked her glass of white wine off the clear glass table on his lanai.

“Sorry! Shit! Oh my God… crazy!” She cackled, one hand pressed against her lips and the other waving in the air as if she were surrendering to some invisible assailant. “You are so stupid!”

His face flushed with heat as he relished in her amusement. What a beautiful sight.

“I’m serious. He was yelling and screamin’ at me but it was hard for me to take him seriously, because his arms were so short. Not like disabled short, that’s nothing to make fun of, but he was built like a fuckin’ dinosaur, a Tyrannosaurus.” He ducked when an olive went flying at his head. “Stop throwin’ food at me! That was a perfectly good olive. I got it from the Mediterranean bar in Safeway.”

Briana slumped down in her seat, giggling uncontrollably.

She’s as silly as I am… Oh God, we’re in trouble…

“Did you cuss him out?”

“Yeah. I can’t remember what I said verbatim, it was so long ago, but it was enough to get my ass tossed out with my last check. My boss said he understood my frustration but that it still wasn’t professional. And that was that.” He shrugged. “As far as I’m concerned, respect is earned, ya know?” She nodded in agreement. “So, what about you?” He picked up his glass of wine and took a sip. “Worst job experience?”

“Oh, geesh.”

Briana looked up towards the sky as if wracking her brain. He took that time to enjoy the way her tight, low cut V-neck black sweater displayed her gorgeous breasts… the ones he’d had the pleasure of sucking for far too short of a time.

“Oh, I know.” She held up her finger. “I was working at T.J. Maxx during undergrad. It was the worst. Job. Ever! Not because of the place itself. My boss and coworkers were fine, for the most part. It was some of the customers. So, there was a
